DDT thins shells of eggs from mallard ducks maintained on ad libitum or controlled-feeding regimens.

چکیده
Mallard ducks were fed diets containing various levels of technical DDT or chemically pure p,p'-DDT, or dieldrin. Either technical DDT or p,p'-DDT at 20 ppm or greater, or dieldrin at I 0 ppm caused a statistically significant reduction in e9gshell thickness, weight, and calcium. Shells of eggs from ducks fed 40 ppm of p,p -DDT were about 20% thinner than those from control ducks, and shells of eggs from ducks fed I 0 ppm of dieldrin were about 6% thinner than those from controls. The reduction in eggshell thickness was linear with increasing dose of DDT to 40 ppm, and with increasing dose of dieldrin through ail levels studies. Eggshell thinning occurred regardless of whether the diets containing DDT were fed under ad libitum or controlled conditions. DDT fed at 200 ppm was lethal to the ducks. Neither DDT nor dieldrin affected weight of the eggs or rate of egg production.

Productive Performance and Hatchability of Alabio Ducks (Anas platyrhynchos Borneo) under Rural Feeding Management: Comparison of Different Dietary Protein Levels and Sex Ratios
An experiment was conducted to assess the optimum nutrient requirement and ideal mating ratios for Alabio ducks for production of fertile eggs and hatchability under rural feeding management. A total of 135 forty weeks old females and 27 males were used in the study. They were fed on low (17.5%), medium (19.5%) and high (21.5%) crude protein (CP) in diets containing approximately 3050 kcal of m...
متن کاملInfluence of Overfeeding on Productive Performance Traits, Foie Gras Production, Blood Parameters, Internal Organs, Carcass Traits, and Mortality Rate in Two Breeds of Ducks
A total of 60 male mule ducks and 60 male Muscovy ducks were allotted into three groups (n = 20) to estimate the effects of overfeeding (two and four meals) versus ad libitum feeding on productive performance traits, foie gras production, internal organs, and blood parameters. The results show that force-feeding four meals significantly increased (P < 0.01) body weight, weight gain, and gain pe...

________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract The study tested the performance of intact male pigs from a selected genetic line subjected to differing feeding regimens and penning conditions. The trial was a 2 x 3 x 2 x 3 factorial design, consisting of winter and summer periods, three sire lines, two diets and three feeding regimens. The pigs were in...

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effect of early life nutrient restriction and subsequent intermittent lighting schedule on performance in broiler. In a factorial experiment, the effect of three levels of feeding regimes and two levels of lighting schedule were investigated using 480 day-old male Hubbard chicks. The broiler chickens were randomly distributed over two rooms consi...

Separate subchronic reproductive toxicity studies were conducted using mallard ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) and northern bobwhite quail (Colinus virginianus). Three groups (32/group; 16 male-female pairs) of 17-week-old ducks (F0 generation) were fed Purina Game Bird Breeder Layena diets containing mean (+/-SD) 33.2 (+/-2.7), 68.9 (+/-1.8), and 140.9 (+/-5.1) microg/g strychnine for 20 weeks, wit...
